California Enterprise Zone (EZ) Credits and Deductions
California’s EZ Program provides significant tax savings to businesses located in designated areas (currently, there are 42 such areas). We specialize in helping California businesses take full advantage of the program and obtain maximum tax credits .
If you business is located in a designated Enterprise Zone, you may qualify for the following credits and deductions:
Hiring Tax Credit
By far the most significant credit available through the EZ program, the Hiring Tax Credit allows an employer to claim credits of up to $37,440 per qualified employee hired in 2009 or $37,000 if hired in 2008. The credits can be applied against prior taxes, resulting in refunds, or they can be carried forward indefinitely, available to offset future state taxes.
Sales and Use Tax Credit
Qualifying businesses are allowed to claim credits equal to the amount of sales and use tax paid on qualified purchases including purchases of machinery, equipment, computers, and fax machines.
In addition to the credits above, the EZ program provides for special business expense deduction, net interest deduction for lenders, and increased net operating loss carryover period for qualifying business.
